What is Detective Fiction?

Detective fiction is a mainstay of modern American entertainment, from "Law & Order" to "Scooby-Doo." However, the beginnings of detective fiction as a genre come from Edgar Allan Poe and his interest, or perhaps obession, in the macabre. The publication of his book The Murders in the Rue Morgue showcased a gruesome murder and intelligent dichipering of the clues to solve the murder.
